Most of a drain and sewer system is underground or inside a wall, so the quickest way to know what is wrong is to look. We run a sewer camera through the line and watch it on the screen: tree roots, a break or offset joint, a low spot holding water, grease buildup, or something that should not be in the pipe. You see what we see before anyone talks about a repair.
The camera head carries a locating transmitter. From the surface we trace where the line runs and mark the spot and the approximate depth of the problem, so a repair is dug in one place instead of trenching the yard to find it. Before any digging, 811 is still called for the public utility locates.
When a camera inspection helps
- A drain that clogs again soon after it was cleared
- Before a sewer repair or replacement, to confirm what is wrong and where
- After drain cleaning or hydro jetting, to confirm the line is clear
- Finding where a sewer or drain line runs before digging, building or landscaping
- An older home that still has its original sewer pipe
A camera inspection finds the problem; it does not fix it. If the line needs work, you get the price before anything begins, and the same crew handles the cleaning or the sewer repair.
Signs you may need service
- Slow drains throughout the house
- Repeat backups after snaking
- Gurgling toilets or drains
- Sewage smell in the yard or basement
- A soggy or sunken patch of lawn
- Large trees near the sewer line
